ProjectBlu, the leader in sustainable pet beds, leash collars or accessories is offering a range of products made of apple leather 🍏.
But do you really know what is apple leather, how it is made and what are the benefits?
Nearly 65% of all leather produced today are coming from calves🐄, sheep 🐏 and goats🐐. Environmental impact of leather coming animal is rather high. There is first the carbon footprint from rearing the animals, the use of chemicals for the tanning and finally the air pollution generated during transformation. Imagine the impact on our dear planet 🌍!
A concrete figure, that everybody 👨💻 can understand: the processing of 1 000 Kg of hides – the animal skin used to make leather - generally produces 20 000 to 80 000 litres of waste water🚰…
If on top of that, we consider the animal cruelty, which is rather well controlled in Europe, however not so much in the rest of the world, and frankly speaking nobody really knows the origin of the leather used in the items you are purchasing, then we definitely face an issue, or multiple issues!
This is where ProjectBlu comes to the rescue, with the apple leather🍎! Why use animal hides when you can use the leftovers of the apples used for producing apple juice 🧃 or compote?
Originating from the region Trentino of Northern Italy, apple leather – which can be also named vegan 🌿 leather because it is not originating from animals – is first animal cruelty-free! Then it is a fully renewable resource with a lower carbon footprint than the conventional leather or even other vegan leather! Finally, its look and feel are very similar to animal leather!
In more details, apple leather is a bio-based material made using the leftover pomace and peel from the fruit juice and compote industry. The fabric is created by first taking the recovered apple waste and reducing it to a powder. Once processed, it is sent to a factory where it is combined with polyurethane and coated onto a cotton and polyester canvas.
Unfortunately, your dog🐕 cannot choose what’s good for our planet, and for us too, but definitely you can decide to equip him with a set of ProjectBlu collar, leash and poo bag holder, available in various sizes and colour and which look great, are handmade in Italy and are fully sustainable.
Beside the green aspect, Nabucco proudly donates 10% of the revenue of the sales of ProjectBlu’s products to CYMEPA, a Cypriot association that help and raise awareness about protecting our sea and marine environment.
